The origin of the
name "Taj Mahal" is not understandable. Court histories from
Shah Jahan's reign only call it the tomb of Mumtaz
Mahal. It is
normally believed that "Taj Mahal" is shortened version of her
name, Mumtaz Mahal.
The manufacture of this marble masterwork is recognized to the
Mughal emperor Shah Jahan who put up this tomb in the memory of
his beloved wife, Arjumand Bano Begum, generally known as
Mumtaz Mahal. Person from all around the world travel to taj mahal Agra
to see one of the most beautiful and charming monuments in the
world. The construction of Taj Mahal was started in AD 1631 and
finished at the end of 1648 AD. For seventeen years, twenty
thousand workmen are said to be working on it daily, for their
lodging a small town, named after the deceased empress 'Mumtazabad,
now known as Taj Ganj, was built neighboring to it.
